ONE to a MILLION???

I was watching Game Ka Na Ba this morning and I was able to enjoy the jackpot round for I answered five out of the six answers. The topic was a very easy one, "Primetime Emmy Award winners for Best Comedy Series". The letters given were A, I, S, F, E, and J. The only one iIwasn't able to answer was J. I was thinking of Just Shoot Me [though I know it's wrong] or Jack and Bobby [which is a drama series. Hehe.]

My answers were:
A- Arrested Development
I- I Love Lucy
S- Sex and the City; Seinfeld
F- Friends, Frasier
E- Everybody Loves Raymond
J- Jack [something] Show

Most of the answers were winners this decade so it was quite easy.

Now, I know I'm right. Studying Emmy history pays off. Bigtime.

ISKO'T ISKA 2007

Last Thursday, we decided to watch Isko’t Iska 2007. The purpose is actually for nothing. I just want to compare last year’s and see the other versions of this play that’s offered as a welcome treat for new freshies.

So I was there together with Lav, Cha, Joie, Von, Vlaire, Lloyd, and Carla as we spend the night watching and laughing at the presentation.

To be honest, it was quite satisfactory. Good at its best. It’s very difficult to compare it to last year because these are two different presentations and I might be a little biased since I was from last year butlet em say that I enjoyed last year miles ahead than I enjoyed this year.

It basically has the elements of a normal Isko’t Iska play: funny moments, usage of the hottest songs right now (i.e Sinabawang Gulay, the “Ako ang Reyna” song by Yeng Constantino [I don’t know the title], and Di Ako Bakla by Michael V.), insertion of Filipino culture, the Awit ng Kabataan song at the near end, and the UP jokes, that of course, only UP people will get.

The jokes are not upsetting, they are funny and some scenes made me laugh my ass off all the time. I heard some of the best punch lines of the night, and I appreciated the effort but my problem was with the story. I love the script but it was too political. I know that the title, Dra-matrikula Rising, actually refers to the tuition fee increase the new freshmen experience, but there are some moments in the play where I was confused if I was in a play or in a symposium.

To make things worse, the set of actors who played at this year’s part was a combination of amateurish, impressive, outstanding, and some are simply, mind boggling on how they passed the audition part.

One thing I love is that they started early; no bands performed while making the audience wait. This was very different from last year where in they said that it will start at 7 PM but actually started two hours later.

Acting wise, like what I said, there are those who are impressive. Oscar Ledesma [the guy who was wearing the glasses] and Jeremy FariƱas [the girl with the short hair] were the clear standouts. They steal every scene where they appeared, and in the debate part where they shared a scene together: pure brilliance! The girls who played Iska were good as well, not the level of those I mentioned, but were talented and entertaining enough to handle the pressure of being the lead role. Kudos also to one who played Pegarao for I know he’s one of the crowd favorites. I met him yesterday and I already congratulated him. Hehe.

On the other hand, there are characters I just can’t stand. Maybe the actors who play them but some act plainly irritable. Others are histrionic, and some, simply are too annoying to watch that you want the next scene to move on once you see their faces on the stage. [There are three characters I’m referring to]

The numbers are beautiful, and the direction was excellent. It was pretty entertaining at the first four acts but became dragging at the middle to the last part. I was expecting that the crowd will lighten up once Mariang Banga’s act will start [It was my hands down favorite part last year] but all I saw was a less funnier, less entertaining version of Mariang Banga, who mind you, was also good, but fell from high expectations compared to the performer last year. By the way, I love how she mentioned the word “hitad”. Hehe. Too tabloid-ish, but fun!

The PGMA act was also funny as well. it was so funny when she abbreviated Palparan into Palpy, Palpy. LOL!!! Haha! Good job also to her. That’s one of the funniest moments of the night. Boy, was I shocked when I saw the large amount of audience that were watching. The DL Umali Hall was clearly jampacked. It was amazing!

All in all, I can say that they did a decent job. I was just having high expectations. But I really can’t tolerate the political part because clearly, that was the most boring thing I’ve witnessed since God-knows-when. I was there to get entertained and not to be lectured about the TFI! But I appreciated and saw their efforts.

Anyways, congratulations to the whole production of the Isko’t Iska this year! Welcome to the new Iskolar ng Bayan, and until next year!!

Next week: Icebag!!! [excitement]

************************************************************
Anyways, speaking of the TFI, I am feeling more and more apathetic about the issue as days [or months] go by. Maybe it’s because I love the advancements that happened at the campus at the expense of the new freshman. Hehe. [I am so so soooo devil] Wahaha! And from what I’ve heard, some new freshmen [take note: SOME] are feeling prima donnas just because they pay higher tuition fee. Hmm. I actually noticed that even DevCom freshmen students are looking so high tat themselves.

In our building, all the annex classrooms were already tiled. And the lecture room hall has added technical gadgets that were oh-so amazing. I just hope that the basement of the Hum building will be taken notice because the basement is already shouting for a renovation!!!

Lucky us, we did not make it to the TFI issue, but so far, I am liking this idea at all. Hehe! :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHARLOTTE!!!

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday, happy birthday, happy birthday Charlotte!!! [Faster!]

Yesterday, was Lotte’s debut; the first one that I attended in our batch [unless you count Rochelle’s]. Well, this is the first formal debut that I attended to [HS classmate wise].

It was 3:30 when I went to SM to buy a very “early" gift. I was definitely going to buy a book. That’s what I’ll give to everyone who’ll celebrate their debut. I already had Like Water for Chocolate as my gift but I saw another book which I think Lotte will like. It took me forever to choose what book because I’m on a stiffed budget.

After buying a book, I’m not prepped yet to go to the party. I still have to have a new haircut! But it never reached me that I’ll be late. I don’t think I’m gonna be late at all. Since I know there are always those people who’ll come late. Nothing against them but sometimes they’re irritating.

I was able to finish my haircut at 5:00 PM. So, forty minutes to go. I’m still not panicking. But when I reached home, I started to panic. After taking bath, I don’t know what to wear. Not because I have nothing to wear, but there’s a lot of choices that I have on what to wear. I want to have blue since it’s my favorite color. I already wore pink, and red so no to them. Hazel asked me to wear orange so that we’ll have match outfits [since we’re emcees]. Violet was a choice. But I ended up with brown/gold. I liked it, it’s very good. And it took me double the time to choose what tie to match since I cannot afford to go out with an imperfect combination of tie and sleeves.

I reached the place at 6:03 PM. And there are few persons yet. But BURIX is almost complete!!! [Of course, aside from Yek who's in the States] That’s the best part of it! Catching up with old friends!!! I so much miss hanging out with AA, Lotte, EJ, Em, GN, Hazel, Jesette, and Rizza!

The activity started at 7:30 PM. The activity flowed smoothly. It ended up at 10:30 PM and after that is the best part: bonding time with high school classmates! It is so fun catching up with old friends, since I’ve been so busy with my college friends right now! I got bonded with Marc, Paolo, Patrick [who's so good in dancing], Billy, Bryan, Jett, Monique, Arman, among others. It was such a surprise to see Arianne again!

We ended up home at 1:00 AM I guess. Too bad because it’s too early. But one down, two to go to the trifecta of debut that I’m gonna be attending for the following weeks. Rizza’s was next Sunday and Arianne’s was September 8. Good luck at my budget!!!

Here are some pictures:

The debutante with her cake

BURIX: Reunited! We miss you Yek!!!
Non-Burix members but HS classmates!
Marc (who's not smiling) and I (in a change of outfit)
Me and Paolo. Belated Happy Birtdhay Paolo!
Monique, Jett, Rizza, and Chino at the kubo outside

New friend! Together with Lotte's cousin!

Of course, me and the debutante, before we go home

WALK ON

Mom just bought me a pair of Havs when she was at Duty Free last week. It is such a very very big bonus because the moment she called me, I was fixing my goddamm timetable! I chose orange because I'm starting to like the color. Haha! Mom said that only plain Havs were available so I have no choice! Say hello to my 7th pair!

IT'S A HARD KNOCK LIFE

Who said that planning the future was easy!?!?!?!

Obviously, you haven’t filled up your plan of study. It is a REAL headache. I thought choosing majors will be the hardest part. I was wrong. Totally wrong.

Let me tell you the process:
First, you’re gonna choose your major. (Mine’s a toss up among Development Journalism, Community Broadcasting, and Educational Communication.). Then, after you got your plan of study from the College Secretary’s Office, you will choose six technical subjects, two Social Science electives, and two other majors that wasn’t a requirement of your chosen major.

Done? Not yet. You’re gonna consult your adviser and let him/her approve your plan of study. This [schedule] must appropriately fill your timetable perfectly. Once approved, go to the Department Head for another round of consultation and questioning before you’ll get that signature of hers.

Sounds easy? Hell yeah! And as students, the best part of doing something is by cramming. Deadline is August 15 and we all started doing it by August 13. Plus, there are a gazillion of rules that you must follow. There should be a pattern of technical subjects that you must remember. For example do not get Animal Science subjects and Wildlife Subjects. The reason? ANSC is Animal Production and WLDL is Wildlife Conservation. Dumb, but true!

And here’s my first take at the plan of study:

The six techincals that I chose are: BIO1, BIO2, ANSC1, ANSC2, HNF11, and HNF12. My adviser Mam De Villa (thanks a lot for helping me!!! =p) advised me to skip my HNF11, and 12 since they have no relation with BIO and ANSC subjects. Being stupid that I am, I never thought that subjects should be interrelated to one another. So she reccomended me to get Wildlife subjects instead. Ok, fine, just to finish this thing!

Now here's my revised plan of study:

And just when I thought it's now over, I received the news that the combination of ANSC, BIO, and Wildlife subjects are rejected by the Division Head. Dang! Why so late? In three hours, the deadline for the submission is so soon, yet I'm so far from being over. I am starting to feel hopeless. I am already cursing with anger because I can't understand why! My adviser approved it for me so why is it rejected? And here's more. Most of the advisers are missing! Can't they just stay on their offices just for this day!?!?! This is where our future starts! And they are dang missing!!!!

The worst part is that there are lots of Social Science electives that are so good yet you can only choose two while there are no decent techincal subjects and you need to choose six (!). Makes me wonder why does Development Communication be a Bachelor of Science instead of being a Bachelor of Arts!

I ended up getting Biology I, Biology II, Animal Science I, Animal Science II, Meat Processing. and Dairy Production. I don't even know what are gonna be tackled in those ****in' subjects. And I don't even know the subjects themselves!

But who cares? Never mind them now. As long as I'm done, I'm happy.

I'll just suffer the consequences later.

DARE YOU TO MOVE

It was 9:30 PM when I was asked if I still want to transfer cribs. Of course I do. I really want to. Even before summer started, I always wanted to. So, wish granted, quite late for a night for me to transfer. Actually, I’m just gonna move to the place beside mine. So no hassle at all, but I still called Von to help me. We transferred my things for two and a half hours. And I’m telling you, it is not easy.

Of course, I need not to bring all the things that I have in my current room. It was so hard for me to choose if I would still bring my gazillion cans of Spuds, all the bottles of Nestea that I drank when I was still a freshman, the free newspapers that I took home from our Field Trip in History 2 last March. All of those things seem important to me. Every piece means something for me. But of course, I used my brain rather than my heart. I would have no place for any more trash. That’s why I wanted to evacuate in the first place. I’m so lazy of cleaning.

So there started my transfer. Magazines? Check! Handouts from my first year? Check! Empty bottles of perfume? Hmm… OK, they look expensive so check! Havaianas? Check! And one by one, I saw my former shelter, my habitat for one year and two months slowly losing all my possessions, as I recall the moment that I quickly said to my Mom that I want THAT place, not because I like it, but because I really have no other options because all the other places are already full.

When Mr. Heckles died on Friends, I remember Chandler (Matthew Perry) taking a last look to his place after they cleaned it. For a moment, I felt like being Chandler to my own place. And as I close the door, I felt like leaving all the things that the room gave me. Fear, bliss, anger, boredom and everything. I never expected that by that night, I would never ever sleep in that place anymore. And when I reminisce the moments that this room made me lose my mind during the times of Milenyo, or when I came back after Christmas vacation where it looked so ancient, or the gigantic spider that was crawling on the walls on my first week, I also reminisce that this is the room that saw all of me. Here is the place where I would give up, and cry for hours, feel depressed, and made me feel safe and comfortable. It was such nostalgic as I remember all those moments in the seconds as I close my door.

I already surrendered my key this morning, and I already said goodbye to the room. Though not the way I expected it, I’m hopeful that the next occupant will love it the way I do.
